Information for Redwood Camera Club Members
Redwood Camera Club
Welcome New or Prospective Member;
Welcome to the Redwood Camera Club. We pride ourselves on being a small comfortable group with great diversity in its membership; from professional photographers to blue ribbon amateurs and beginners. We hope to provide an environment of inspiration, support, passion, talent, expertise, and skills.
The Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month (subject to change) at the Boy Scout Building, 1007 Wood Street, Eureka, CA. We emphasize education for our members through videos, slides, and guest speakers. Field trips and special themes are scheduled periodically throughout the year. Ideas for various activities are generated from the Club members. Each meeting allows time to share photos around the table or in a more formal mode with gentle critique. Judging is left to outside organizations, such as the Redwood Art Association, Humboldt Arts Council or other local and farther-a-field competitions. The four main goals of the Redwood Camera Club are to;
Provide members with photography related education
Provide a forum for exhibiting photographs
Perform a community service
Provide a forum for informal sharing of photographs

HOW WE HANG A REDWOOD CAMERA CLUB SHOW
It is important to note that when the RCC has an exhibit it is designed to display the exhibit and the individual photographs in the most effective manner possible rather than highlighting an individual photographer.
1.Participation in group shows is voluntary and we encourage our members to display their work. Deadlines for group shows are set so we know how many people will be in it because we need to determine in advance how many photos each photographer will be able to hang. Date and time to take down the show are also predetermined.
2.Labels are printed in a uniform format. One of the members does the labels for all the photos so it is important that you meet the date requested for label information. Label content for each show is determined by the executive committee (although suggestions are always welcome). Label information may include: Title, Artist, for sale or NFS, format, artist statement.
3.Framing: see attached instructions.
4.Hanging the show: We meet together at the venue at a pre-arranged time and date. Members help hang the show, but on occasion, a limited number of members may be selected to hang. We place all the photos out in the gallery prior to hanging and then regroup them in a manner that is appropriate to the venue so your photos may not be grouped together side by side.
5.Equipment: measuring tapes, levels, wall hanging putty, hammer, picture hanging nails are helpful.
6.If you can’t be available to help put up the show or take down your photo, then other club members are glad to help. Please offer help if others need it.

Framing Requirements
FRAMING - The following are REQUIREMENTS for framing to make our exhibits more uniform and easier to hang:
• Photographs should be framed under glass, plastic, acetate, spray or another protective element.
• For hanging use braided wire, aluminum, non-stretch chord or non-stretch plastic or coated wire. The word "wire" will be used for any of the above.
• To assure that the photographs hang flat, place fasteners for the wire about 1/4 down from the top of the frame. E.g., for a vertical 16X20 inch framed photo, place at 5 inches from the top (i.e., 20/4).
• The apex of the wire when pulled should be 2 inches below the top of the frame so that the photograph will hang flat against the wall.
• Do not use the hangers with teeth at the top of the frame or U-clips. These pull loose and the frames fall.
• Metal frames should be held together with screws not clips. Wire must be attached to holders that are screwed to the frame.
The following are SUGGESTIONS to help members buy and use frames economically and safely:
º The two companies list below offer frames at low prices. Call for a catalog.
http://www.americanframe.com/ 1-888-628-3833, Mon - Fri, 8:30 - 5:30 p.m. EST. http://www.framesbymail.com/ 1-800-332 2467
º Simple frames do not draw attention away from the photograph.
º An over mat can enhance your photograph while protecting it from the outside
covering (glass, plastic …).
º To cover sharp ends of hanging wire use tape (masking or electrical) on the wound
ends of wire.
º Twist wire at least 4 times after running through the hanger
º Reuse frames, store pictures in plastic bags when not showing – this saves room
and allows you to work with fewer frames.
º Pads on the corners will prevent slippage, protect walls and protect other pictures
from scratching.

LABEL INFORMATION:

be done in 16 point regular Verdana
Price or nfs (not-for-sale) should be in 16 point Verdana and should be
aligned right.
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
Pierre Auguste Renoir
$16.00
Verdana Eighteen (18)
Point Bold and center

Verdana sixteen(16)point
Not bold, center justified
Aligned right for price or NFS
Similar fonts to Verdana, in case you don't have the font are (all in 18 pt. Bold):
Ariel
Estrangelo Edessa Microsoft Sans Serif Shruti
It looks to me like the spacing on some of the fonts other than Verdana would need adjusting by going to "character spacing" which can be found under "font" in Microsoft Word.
The practice sheet is best utilized by printing your labels first on a plain piece of paper and holding both sheets up to the light together to check your alignment. It's also the reason I left the lines on this sheet which can be used the same way.
